Review

I’ve really enjoyed this Jane Eyre retelling. But I have to admit that Best Kept Secret could have been part of book two.

I felt like not a ton happened in Best Kept Secret and that there were some unnecessary things in this book. This one added Emily’s POV, and I didn’t think it was necessary at all. It didn’t add anything to the book, and quite frankly, I don’t care much for Emily.

Jane obviously returns to Beau in this book, but I wish the one had focused more on their relationship. Even near the end of the book, Jane was still insecure in her relationship, and rightfully so. But I would have liked to see Beau and Jane sit down and discuss their issues. I didn’t feel like any of their problems were resolved, and I would have enjoyed that a lot more than Emily’s POV chapters.

I did enjoy the resolution, though again, that felt rushed. We waited two books for this, and then it’s just blurted out at the beginning of this book. Even then, I thought there were still some mysteries that didn’t get properly resolved.
I still love Beau and Jane, and I was happy to read one more book with them. And this one brought the steam!
Overall it was a satisfying ending, but I just would have liked more Beau and Jane.
