Beautifully Cruel
Title: Beautifully Cruel
Series Number: 1

Synopsis

Alpha (noun):
1) Having the highest rank in a dominance hierarchy
2) The most powerful man in a group
3) Liam Black

He was a stranger to me, a dark and dangerous presence who materialized from the shadows one rainy night to save me from a vicious attack. I didn’t know his name or where he was from. All I knew was that the only place I’d ever felt safe was in his arms.

But safety is an illusion.
And not every savior is a hero.
And—as I’d soon find out—having an alpha save your life comes with a price.

Liam Black wanted something from me in return.

Review

I really enjoy a dark mafia romance, but I have to say Beautifully Cruel was much less dark than I had anticipated.

This story was a little insta-love though we miss the year that Liam and Tru stared at each other in the diner. It starts with them having their first conversation and heats up pretty quickly from there.  Liam is possessive, broody, and tortured, which is just the type of hero I love in a romance.  Tru was naive but feisty, and I like that about her.  She didn’t know enough to be scared of Liam, and so she wasn’t.

The audiobook was fantastic; it was done in duet narration which is my absolute favorite.  Marnye Young was great, but Troy Duran’s performance was AMAZING.  All the different voices and accents he did were wonderful, and I would certainly listen to other books he’s narrated!

I know there is book two, and I can’t help hoping for a book three about Declan because I would love to more about that character!
