Synopsis

I never thought I’d be singing happy birthday to myself in a dungeon. And yet when a sinfully sexy demon crashes happy hour, that’s exactly what happens. He’s known as the Lord of Chaos, he’s mistaken me for my succubus doppelgänger.

Happy birthday to me.

When he tastes my blood, he finally understands I’m mortal. And I realize we have something in common: we both crave revenge. So we make a deal: I can stay in the forbidden city to hunt for my mom’s killer. In return, I’ll help him get the vengeance he craves. I just have to pose as a sexy succubus. One problem–he’s my number one suspect.

And that’s increasingly hard to remember as he teaches me my role: seduction. With each heated touch I drift further into peril. And if I fall under his seductive spell, death awaits me.

Review

City of Thorns was a great start to what I know will be a fantastic paranormal romance.

The world-building in City of Thorns is so great. The demon world is so well thought out that it is easy to slip into while reading. I still have a lot of questions, but they are more questions about what will happen in the rest of the story. I enjoyed the story though I found it to be predictable. However, I liked how Rowan was able to outsmart the Demons.

I enjoyed the characters. Orion was fascinating. He is mysterious and intelligent, and very seductive. Rowan was slightly annoying. I didn’t dislike her but her naivety grated on me. She has a single-mindedness that you know will get her trouble, but there isn’t anything you can do about it.

Overall this was a fun read. I will certainly be reading the next book in this series.
